Virus Alert!

Viruses are on the loose again, though this is nothing terribly new.

The latest generation of viruses are largely acknowledged to be the work of professional spam software developers, usually accumulating zombie computers for use in botnets, and the recent virus outbreak is no exception. The most recent outbreak is proportedly a list of CNN news stories with fantastic titles.

Spam Filter Frustration

Spam filters can be frustrating, but a lack of spam filtering can be even worse. The adum of JHD (Just Hit Delete) that spammers often promote as the "answer" is a pretty poor solution to a rather sad problem.
The reason? Humans are actually MORE likely to delete a legitimate email than the spam filter is. OOPS.

There are some ways to reduce your frustration with filters however, and the best way to start, is to learn more about how the filters work, so you'll have a better idea of how to work with them, instead of at odds with them.

Spam in the news

Myspace is making news with its judgement against "Spamford Wallace" (MySpace wins $230 million in Internet spam case) the infamous junk mailer behind Cyber Promotions. (which was sued out of business by AOL) Despite this, I doubt this is the last we'll see of him.

People like this are a huge nusiance to any communications company, but did you know that grin.net rejects, at delivery time, 80% of all email?

OpenID

Did you know you can use your account on www.grin.net as an OpenID authentication source?

To use grin.net as openID authentication, supply a URL similar to the following (I'll explain that momentarily) to an OpenID enabled site:
http://www.grin.net/users/<userid>

Where <userid> is your username on this site.

I use the url http://www.grin.net/users/shadow for example, but if your name is 'johndoe', you would use:
http://www.grin.net/users/johndoe

Procrastination

pro·cras·ti·nate(prō-krās'tə-nāt', prə-)

v. pro·cras·ti·nat·ed, pro·cras·ti·nat·ing, pro·cras·ti·nates

v. intr. To put off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness.

v. tr. To postpone or delay needlessly.

I cannot truthfully say that I'm not a procrastinator.  I find many reasons to put things off needlessly, and likely, so do you.  Most everyone procrastinates some, for some reason, but the truth of the matter is that it doesn't do us any good in the end. The keyword here is needlessly, as we needn't put things off.
